A field trip will be organised on the second day to Dongtan, the world’s largest eco-city currently under construction in Chongming County in Shanghai. A joint Sino-British collaboration, the project will achieve zero carbon emission and self-sufficiency of water and energy. It is expected to accommodate 300,000 people by 2020 and is set to become the Manhattan of Shanghai by mid century. With only the most innovative designs and technologies, Dongtan is one of the most prominent test fields of sustainable technology in the world.
Visitors will be able to get first-hand experience of how sustainable energy projects are carried out in China. They will also get a feel of the rapid economic development and the Chinese government’s firm commitment to put sustainable energy a top priority for the country.
