Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin has published a research article calling the government to pay special attention to formulating the country's energy policies.

The 15-page article, entitled "Reflections on Energy Issues in China", was published on the Journal of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Mr Jiang criticizes China's low energy efficiency and urges the current leadership to develop a "completely new energy strategy with Chinese characteristics." He also emphasizes that China's energy challenges can only be solved with technology innovation, international cooperation and the development of renewable energy, areas which the SSEA is currently working on.
